Snuggies, Utilities, and Love

One of my favorite gifts that I recieved this holiday season was a Snuggie. Yes, I finally got that Snuggie that I have been wanting for quite some time. Now, I know what you are thinking... A Snuggie isn't an adult gift; you were exaggerating when you said that you only got big kid gifts. But that is where you are wrong. The Snuggie is the most practical gift that I recieved. You see, part of becoming an adult involved me paying my own bills, which has been a hard thing for me to grasp as I am a huge tight wad when it comes to utilities. I didn't turn my air conditioner on all summer because I didn't want to pay for the electric; I sit in the dark and read books by a battery operated book light; I unplug everything in my house as soon as I am done using it. I wish that I could say that I was conserving energy for the greater good of the earth, but in all actuality, it is that I simply do not want to pay for utilities and would rather put that money toward more important things, like booze or shoes. Having explained my frugalness with this issues, you can now understand why I was hesitant to turn on my heat once the temperatures dropped. I put it off and put it off as long as I could, going to my parents' house more often to visit (aka warming up) or wearing lots of layers of clothes. However, my frugal ways had to be suspended when I hosted house guests about a month back and the heat finally came on. That is where the problems began because I simply couldn't go back to the cold once I had experienced such warmth. My opinion on this quickly changed when I received my electric bill and it was $112, which is about five times that of my average bill. I have decided that heating my house is like drinking tequila. At the time it feels good and warm but by the time the bill comes, your tab is through the roof and you forgot why you had enjoyed it so much! So, now that I am back to shivering in my apartment, I have deemed the Snuggie the best gift I could have received since I spend countless hours using it.

A particular activity that I have enjoyed in the Snuggie is watching the entire series of Sex and the City on DVD. I have just finished the second season, and I must say the more I watch the more that I really think that Carrie Bradshaw and I were supposed to be life long friends! She has such insight to things. Just yesterday she was discussing how people tend to repeat the same mistakes over and over and questioned whether or not that was our fate. Obviously, I decided to take the episode much futher in my own head and analyze my life -- which is what these types of shows (and Dr. Phil) are for -- to which I realized that I do date the same type of guy over and over and over and they are all scum. Why do I do this? Well, it is quite simple - I blame Aunt Becky. Yes, Aunt Becky, wife of Uncle Jesse Katsopolis (yes, that hot piece of John Stamos meat). The show Full House completely skewed my idea of love. If Aunt Becky can get Uncle Jesse to settle down and stop being a whore bag bad ass, then why can't I do the same with these old frat boys?? Oh, that one is easy, because Full House is a fictional show. Well, too bad that no one told me that when I was just a wee tyke forming opinions, the main one being if fall for douche bags, they will eventually fall for you just like on Full House. So rather than get a therapist (because that is another expense that I am not interested in taking on), I am thinking about suing the writers of Full House for mental problems that they have caused me. Hopefully this will pan out nicely and I will be able to afford my electric bill in the future. If not, I guess I will just be left to living a sad lonely life in my Snuggie.
