My name is Jane, or at least for the sake on anonymity, that is what I will call myself for this blog. Basically, this is in an effort to 1. continue my employment at the job that I so loathe and 2. refrain from getting my arse kicked when I write something rude that will inevitably be seen by whomever I do not want to have see it.
I went to college for four years and worked my ass off to graduate on time. Okay, so I didn't exactly work my ass off. I may have only gone to the library an average of five times a semester, done homework only when it was too cold or rainy to hit the bars on a weeknight or there wasn't something more important on my agenda, and actually forced myself to attend non-mandatory attendance classes 50% of the time, but none the less, I graduated on time and where I went to school, that is saying a lot since most folks choose to take a victory lap or two.
Now, five months after graduation, I find myself working a job where I am overqualified, overpaid, and under worked. Sounds like the perfect job for a recent graduate who is not quite ready to enter the real world, right? Who wouldn't want to have the entire day to screw around and get paid more than most of their friends who actually have things to do for over 25% of the time? My life is a dream come true, right? Wrong. I spend nearly 50% of my work day lurking on facebook and interacting with the same four people, who are still in college but obviously are slacking off just as much as I used to. The remainder of my time is spent on various non-work related tasks, such as online shopping, reading numerous blogs and comical websites, trying to figure out how to use my iPhone, trying to figure out what all the number signs and strange lingo on twitter means, g-chatting utter nonsense, planning trips, reviewing my bank statements and wondering why I purchased the things I did, and e-mailing my fellow recent graduate, Suzi, who while having actual things to do at work enjoys my e-mail company enough to have e-mail conversations with up to seventy e-mails exchanged between us daily.
So as you can see, while I have had success in finding a full-time, full-benefit, salaried position during this economic downtime, my overall career is a failure as it stands. Granted I am thankful to be employed but I simply cannot understand why people that screw around in college get extra time to screw around, while the people that manage to graduate on time are punished into having to actually get up at the crack of dawn, shower, and go to sit and stare at a computer screen all day. And with that said, I would like to welcome you to my yet another way that I can preoccupy myself while I daydream about the day that I marry an insanely rich man and can spend my days gossiping poolside at the Country Club.
